Big Enough To Get The Job Done, Small Enough To Care

Lulu Island Plumbers Close By

While a licensed plumber in Richmond is likely to know the local laws regarding permits backwards and forwards, the average homeowner simply doesn't have the need to be so well-acquainted with plumbing regulations. However, if you attempt a DIY project without checking with your city building officials, you may be setting yourself up for a costly surprise.

Unlicensed DIY plumbing is amateur work. Reading and watching video tutorials simply can't compensate for knowledge that comes from years of experience. Smaller jobs can be handled just fine by almost anyone, but larger jobs need true expertise to ensure that each detail is handled correctly.

The Pitfalls of DIY Plumbing

If a DIY job springs a leak or otherwise fails, you could be facing more trouble than what you tried to fix. If the leak damages your home severely, which is very possible in the case of structural water damage, insurance might come into play. However, insurance will often refuse a claim if the damage resulted from work done without the proper permits.

Fines are another potential of working without proper permits. Just like parking violations or using your sprinkler on an off day, working without a permit can leave you open to fines. The amount varies by location.

To avoid these kinds of pitfalls, it is always best to call any Richmond plumbers you know if you see anything beyond your skill level. Pioneer Plumbing and Heating is one of Richmond's best plumbers, and we've been working this area since 1976. If you are looking for proof of quality, just search online for Pioneer Plumbing and you'll find dozens of reviews from our customers.

Richmond Covers Most of Lulu Island

Lulu Island is the name of the largest island in the estuary of the Fraser River. The island makes up most of the City of Richmond. Lulu Island was named in 1862 by Richard Moody, after Lulu Sweet, a popular showgirl, possibly of Hawaiian origin when the island was named.

Richmond Roadways

The island enjoyed good connections to the new port city of Vancouver thanks to the Lulu Island & Steveston Railway line of the British Columbia Electric Railway, which began at what is today the north end of the Granville Street Bridge.

Richmond is Below Sea Level

Because of type of land Lulu Island is sitting on, there is a possibility of ground liquefaction if ever a major earthquake was to hit the area. The island is fully diked to protect it from potential flooding during the spring. Some of the island is below sea level, and river level, and there is an extensive drainage and pumping system to prevent flooding during heavy rain.
